Just to give you an idea, the cradle has pushed into the bottom of the hull and the top deck is a spider web of cracks with numerous soft spots. Can you tell me anything about the hull construction of this boat? Does the hull have a core? What are the common problems with the Bombardier? Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated Sincerely, Tim Murray Re: Bombardier 7.6 (26') (Opinion about this sail boat?)

Paul Ormandy (IP Logged)Date: 12/10/2001 09:01AM Tim, First, was the boat made in 1980? There were apparently a few earlier models made in which the hull went "soft" from the keele to stern - I suspect that the cradle has pushed into the bottom of the hull in that area. My boat was made in 1981 and shows no sign of this trouble. Also, my deck has some web cracks but none are serious - mostly just gel coat repairs. The deck has had previous repairs to two soft areas - both on the port side of the cabin top. One was repaired before I owned the boat, the other consisted ou an 8" long "U" shaped crack which I routed out with a Dremmel tool and filled with medium cure epoxy. The area is now very solid. Another thing to watch for - rot along the bottom of the bulkheads in the cabin-especially next to the v-burth. This is caused be neglect in re-bedding the chain plates which allows water to run down the plates and rest in the crack between the wood bulk head and the fiberglass support. This is a dangerous situation but can be fixed if the rot does not travel too far up the Teak vaneer plywood. The hull is not cored in this boat - the deck is partiually cored with balsa. Other problems: check the outboard motor mount for stress cracks, check the rudder for a bit of delamination, how is gel coat around the mast step? Now, the Bombardier is a great boat - very fast and actually somewhat comfortable. I'll easily leavre a J 24 behind in the spray... Mine has an impressive pedigree of racing wins all over Lake Ontario. She is not what you'd call "easy to sail" but if you study boats with her kind of rigging/tuning system (there are lots of books and videos on this) then you'll get her to really move on the water. I'd take the hull problem very seriously on this one though - It may need extensive reinforcing - you may want to keep looking. Feel free to contact me again, P. Rob MacLucas (IP Logged)Date: 02/12/2002 06:13PM Hello, I've owned a Bombardier 7.6 for a couple of years and love it! We are going to be putting ours on the market as we have purchased a larger boat. Ours is here on the west coast, Victoria, BC. She is a little set up for cruising as well as racing: 9.9HP electric start; Harken furling; teak&holy sole; new upholstery; we just put on a new spinnaker. The boat has had other upgrades beyond including topside paint upgraded toe rail, cleats etc... This one is exceptional. Anyway, it will probably be available at Custom Yacht Sales in Sidney. JF Gauvin (IP Logged)Date: 05/06/2002 03:02PM I won't pay more than 10K for a bombardier 7.6 in good shape. Also check the humidity of the hull, you will be surprise. All the bombardier 7.6 that I say are very humide. Re: Bombardier 7.6 (26') (Opinion about this sail boat?)

Dave Soanes (IP Logged)Date: 01/13/2003 04:35PM I just got a steel on the bombardier 7.6. Now does anyone have an owners manual, that is willing to share their copy??? Re: Bombardier 7.6 (26') (Opinion about this sail boat?)

Paul Ormandy (IP Logged)Date: 01/14/2003 07:38PM Mr. Soanes, I wish I could help with a manual for the Bomb - I have done some looking myself but have only seen an origional sales brochure for the boat - I could probably help you with specific questions as I have done a lot of cosmetic work (and some structural restoration) on my own Bomb ('81 model). BUT, I would love to know the proper rig tensions... so if anyone has advice on this or has an origional manual they'd be wiling to scan, it would be a huge asset to all of us dedicated Bomb 7.6 owners. Please feel free to respond at any time with specific questions and congratulations - you will enjoy this boat. There are two at our Club here in Toronto (Lakeshore Yacht Club) and they constantly place at the top in our club races. And, for day or weekend trips, crusing at 6.5 to 7 kts is fun too. So far, the top speed (-still recorded recorded on our GPS as proof) is 15 kts on a run, chute flying, with a crew of 4. Cheers, Paul Ormandy Re: Bombardier 7.6 (26') (Opinion about this sail boat?)

Paul Ormandy (IP Logged)Date: 04/08/2003 10:28AM Fellow Bomb. owners: 1. As per Mr. Soans request - Does anyone have copy of the owners manual for the Bomb 7.6 that they are willing to share? In particular, I am curious about the proper rig tensions? 2. Has anyone had problems with hairline cracking on the spreader mounts and masthead crane? 3. Speaking of spreaders, I'm interested to know if other owners connect the inside sidestay through the forward or aft hole in the spreader mounts? Thanks, Paul Ormandy Re: Bombardier 7.6 (26') (Opinion about this sail boat?)
